Chapter 10
*
As soon as the ropes were finally chewed through, Lin Yue threw herself at the giant white wolf, hugging his massive, fluffy head and planting a kiss right on his blood-stained snout. She poured her spirit energy into him like she was recharging a magical power bank.
Thankfully, it worked! The wolf shrank down in a flash, morphing into Huiqian’s half-human form—silver hair, beast ears, and all.
“Huiqian, I remember everything now. Your core saved my life…” Lin Yue gently wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her voice trembled, “You knew how to take your core back all along, didn’t you? Why didn’t you?”
“If I take it back, you’ll die. And if you die, who will cook for me?” Huiqian’s golden beast eyes were calm and gentle in the moonlight as he added, “Also, the first human to see a monster’s true form is supposed to be taken as a bride… I couldn’t bear for you to die.”
“Idiot!” Lin Yue sobbed, hugging him tight, getting wolf fur and tears all over her face.
Huiqian caught a fever—a supernatural, full-throttle, wolf-demon fever. No matter what Lin Yue tried, his temperature wouldn’t go down. He was so hot, she could have fried eggs on his forehead.
She took two days off to nurse him, running around with wet towels, ice packs, and enough anxiety to power a small city. “Huiqian, don’t scare me! Are you going to be okay? Human medicine doesn’t work on you, does it?”
Huiqian’s ears and tail had popped out, and his silver hair was plastered to the pillow. He panted, “Been away from home too long… not enough spirit energy… so weak…”
Even his breath was hot enough to steam dumplings.
Lin Yue was frantic, eyes rimmed red, and finally made a desperate offer. “Maybe you should just take your core back! If you do, you’ll be fine, right?”
“No.” Huiqian’s eyes snapped open, stubborn as ever.
“Then what do we do? I’ve kissed you so many times, and it’s not working…”
Huiqian’s dangerous, greedy eyes narrowed. “Kissing isn’t enough. There’s another way.”
He pressed her shoulders down, then, with a wolfish grin, flipped her onto the bed and pinned her beneath him.
Lin Yue froze, feeling the heat radiating off him. Huiqian’s voice was a raspy whisper in her ear: “Do you… want to try?”
His beast ears drooped, and his big fluffy tail started wagging like he was about to win “Goodest Boy of the Year.” Lin Yue’s willpower was no match for that level of cuteness.
Let’s just say, after that, Lin Yue was so exhausted she couldn’t lift a finger, and Huiqian fell asleep looking like the world’s most satisfied wolf. Lin Yue lay there, dazed, thinking, “So… dual cultivation is real, huh?”
In that magical moment, their energies mingled, sweeping away all weakness and illness. If only all medicine was this fun.
Not long after, karma finally caught up with Xu Liuxia —her dad was busted for corruption, she dropped out of school, and vanished without a trace. The universe had a sense of humor after all.
Two years later, Lin Yue moved back to Jadeite Town, living a peaceful life as a semi-famous online writer. The mountains were green, the water clear, and the days drifted by in gentle, misty tranquility.
Of course, every night, her not-so-human husband would drop the human disguise and reveal his true wolfy self, pouncing on her with the enthusiasm of a puppy who’d just discovered bacon. After a night of “borrowing energy,” Lin Yue often needed half the next day to recover—her readers probably wondered why her update schedule was so… irregular.
Huiqian taught her to love nature, to listen to the mountain’s breath and the moon’s gentle whispers. He led her through every corner of Jadeite Town, introducing her to all the local monsters—who, it turned out, were a lot friendlier than most people in the city. She learned that the world was full of magical beings worth respecting (and occasionally bribing with snacks).
Lin Yue, in turn, taught her wild wolf how to survive in the human world: reading, surfing the web, even getting him a legal ID . She showed him the wonders of online shopping, cat videos, and, most importantly, what it meant to love.
One evening, the power went out. The whole house was plunged into darkness.
Lin Yue sighed, “The wiring’s ancient. It’s always tripping.”
“I’ll check it out!” Huiqian volunteered, eager to show off his “I’m a handy wolf now!” skills.
But Lin Yue grabbed his arm. “Wait, don’t go. I’m a little scared.”
So Huiqian sat back down beside her. In the darkness, his eyes glowed faintly gold, and he leaned in, finding her lips with uncanny wolf precision. His kiss was wild and gentle, a perfect blend of monster and man.
Predictably, Lin Yue’s heart started glowing again—literally. The golden light from her chest filled the room, soft and warm, chasing away the shadows. It’s bright now,” Huiqian said, rubbing his nose against hers, his beast ears twitching. This was, apparently, the wolf tribe’s ultimate sign of affection.
Lin Yue giggled, running her fingers through his soft hair. Suddenly, she wasn’t scared of the dark at all.
Later, Huiqian gifted her a precious wolf fang necklace. “In our wolf tribe,” he told her, “we only ever have one mate. For life.”
Lin Yue fingered the necklace, teasing, “How long is ‘for life’ for a wolf demon?”
Huiqian, greedy for her love and energy, answered with a grin, “Forever. And then some.”
And so, Lin Yue and her beloved wolf demon lived happily ever after.
